Marketing People are Very Good with Words

A female applicant for Marketing Manager was chosen versus a male applicant in a construction company. It is because of her wit skills with words. She is really a good conversationalist that she can attract people she’s talking to. Her choice of words is convincing and makes the clients to have an immediate partnership with the company. In her first three months in the company, she was able to market its products and services. No wonder, she was able to convince her employer to be chosen for the post over other candidates because of this skill. Everybody in the office admires her. She always captivates the interest of the person she is talking too. It adds up her overall package of herself. Her manner of dressing, actions, and humor make people believe in her. One day, when she was in the office, a group of three employees happens to talk with her. They had casual conversations and these three employees asked something about her family. The marketing manager says she has three children and a super handsome husband. The husband has captivating physical features as described. She needs to be pretty all the time so that her husband will not look with other women. She further said that she loves her family deeply and she doesn’t want that a third party (another woman) will ruin their happy family. She is always on guard of the activities of her husband and ensures that the husband is always in their house all night. In short, the husband is physically handsome as described. The Marketing Manager does not say any single negative description about her husband.

For those who heard the descriptions, the idea that has been developed is a typical husband that is tall and a good looking man that every woman will look forward to being with. The description is more of what is seen on the outside. The three groups of employees were so interested that they wanted to see in person the husband of the Marketing Manager.

One day, the employees in that office overheard that the husband of the Marketing Manager will come to the office to fetch her at 6:30 pm. And so, the employees did not leave the office until the husband of the Marketing Manager is not yet coming. They are so curious that they wanted to see in person the husband of that Marketing Manager, to see what super handsome mean.

At 6:30 pm the husband of the Marketing Manager came in. The employees commented… this is super-handsome mean for her… a man with dark complexion, messy hair, a little bit taller than the ordinary Asian built and wearing a casual shirt and jeans… not so handsome, some other said… others commented that the husband of the Marketing Manager looks like the mechanic in the automobile shop three blocks away from the office. In short, not all are satisfied with what they saw and seems like what was told to them by the Marketing Manager is not transparent with what was described during the office casual chat… People have different perceptions about anything; as the saying “to see is to believe”.

What is the message of this office scenario? Marketing people are very good with words; they are trained to have the kinds of words that captivate the interest of people. The kind of words delivered always protects the interest of the company. They are the builder of the brand of the company; they can transform bad publicity to good publicity. They use their creativity and inherent good reputation to get the trust of clients and stakeholders. Negative words are a no, no to them.

Marketing people are the front face of the company in the global community. People believe in what they say, thus their public statements are always supported by the company to make it transparent. Public statements are released with the approval of the top people in the company like the CEO, the Chairman and the Board of Directors. Without support from them, marketing people may lose face and the company as well.
